2020 Culinary Trends

It’s time to start thinking about what’s ahead in culinary trends for 2020. Lucky for you and your attendees, PRA has had their fingers on the pulse of the industry all year to bring you a forecast of what to look forward to next year.

Hungry for more? Keep reading to find out what we think will be big in food and drink next year.

Meat Alternatives on the Rise

From Burger King to KFC, plant-based alternatives are popping up everywhere. The meeting space is no different. Gone are the cauliflower steaks of 2018. Bring on a juicy Impossible burger! Even the most strict vegetarian will be satisfied.

…And so are Dairy Alternatives

Many believe that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and what’s breakfast without a hot cup of coffee? Many attendees are eschewing lactose and looking at milk alternatives. While soy milk has been around for a few years, we’re seeing a rise in milk alternatives such as oat milk, rice milk, and coconut milk. Mix it up – your guests will thank you for being inclusive!

Waste Not, Want Not

As the fight for a sustainable meetings and events industry remains strong, meals should consider food waste in planning a menu. Look for sustainable, local alternatives for your catering, as well as recyclable or biodegradable serve ware. Any leftovers can be incorporated into a CSR-friendly donation service with a local food bank.

Small Portions, Lots of Options

Our palates like excitement and variety – so plan a meal that has both! Offer guests a wide variety of flavors that they can graze at their leisure. Think sweet, salty, sour, and spicy when planning for small portions that pack a punch.

#FortheFoodies

Instagram isn’t going anywhere, so make your food as photo-ready as possible. Vibrant colors and playful serving will get guests interacting with food with their eyes as much as their mouth.

We are excited to see how event planners begin incorporating these culinary trends into events. What other trends have you been seeing throughout the meeting and
events industry? Which one’s are you most excited to see?
