It’s easy to see why New Orleans was recently ranked as the No. 4 Best City in the U.S. by Travel + Leisure readers. With its distinct culture, cuisine, history, music, festivals, and unmistakable sense of place, I can confidently say, as a local expert, there is nowhere quite like New Orleans.

But in the events industry, the appeal goes beyond tourism accolades. Event planners need more than just a great venue. They want authentic experiences and meaningful connections—they want a city to be part of the event itself.

New Orleans delivers all of that naturally. The city's culture, hospitality, food, music, and neighborhoods aren't separate from the guest experience. They are the experience. It’s all part of why more planners are choosing New Orleans as an event destination—let’s take a look.

By the Numbers

  • 1100+
    restaurants
  • 130+
    annual festivals
  • 300+

Luxury by Day, Culture by Night

New Orleans has evolved into a destination that delivers elevated experiences while remaining authentically itself, offering luxury by day and culture by night. The evolution isn't just about having new hotels and venues. It's about going deeper into the destination.

Think private tee times at championship courses and bespoke wellness experiences focused on restoration and rejuvenation to curated culinary experiences showcasing local chefs and cuisine.

New Orleans just drives engagement. From historic streets and iconic architecture to state-of-the-art music venues, New Orleans brings energy into every moment. Event planners can transform a meeting or event into something more memorable while curating experiences guests can genuinely connect with.

Beyond Bourbon Street

Almost everyone has heard of the French Quarter and Bourbon Street. But it’s time to think beyond them. There’s been a growing desire by planners to move from traditional programming with experiences that feel intentional, immersive, and authentic. New Orleans answers that call, with some of the city’s most memorable experiences found beyond the usual landmarks.

Whether that means strolling through the Garden District and taking in the beautiful historic architecture and oak-lined streets, riding the St. Charles streetcar, exploring Magazine Street with its local shopping, galleries, restaurants, and coffee shops, or experiencing the powerful history and immersive exhibits at The National WWII Museum—these are the moments that give attendees a true sense of place.

New Orleans is a city that is best experienced, not recreated. When guests can connect with the people, neighborhoods, stories, food, and culture that make this city so special, the experience becomes much more meaningful—and much more memorable.

Transportation as a Second Line

Some traditional experiences in New Orleans can’t be missed, and that includes a second line. There seems to be a parade for just about everything in New Orleans. But you can put a little twist on it: consider incorporating a second line into your program as a mode of transportation. It’s a fun and unforgettable way to transfer a group from one spot to another, such as from a hotel to a restaurant to the offsite venue.

It’s a quintessential New Orleans experience, whether it’s in the streets, in a ballroom or as a transition from one event to another. And it’s electric every time. Guaranteed.

A Story Behind Every Story

It seems like every experience in New Orleans comes with a story. Sometimes it's about a family-owned restaurant that has been serving the same signature dish for generations. Or it's a musician carrying on a tradition that stretches back decades. Other times, it's the history tucked inside a neighborhood, a building, or even a cocktail.

That's why experiences here hit different. Guests are connecting with the people, traditions, and culture that make New Orleans, well New Orleans.

Whether guests are exploring a neighborhood, meeting a local chef or discovering the history behind a landmark, they're leaving with more than a memorable experience. They're leaving with a story. They’re not just experiencing New Orleans; they’re getting to know New Orleans.

Here, it's not just about what you do. It's about who you meet, what you learn, and the story you take home.

Walkability 10/10

In my opinion, New Orleans is one of the most walkable cities in the country. It’s just one reason why sporting events, conferences, and meetings work so well here. Groups rarely need motor coaches, sprinter vans, shuttles or other transportation between venues.

The ease of walkability gives New Orleans an edge. Guests can simply walk everywhere, hop on a pedicab, take in a carriage ride, or even participate in a second line.

Built for Elevated Experiences

Of course, authenticity alone isn't enough. The destinations that consistently succeed with meetings and incentive programs are the ones that combine memorable experiences with the infrastructure and expertise needed to execute them seamlessly.

That's another reason New Orleans continues to stand out. The city offers world-class hotels, unique venues, walkable districts, exceptional dining, and a hospitality community that understands how to host groups at every scale.

NOLA Superdome

As planners continue toward more meaningful, personalized, and immersive experiences, New Orleans is uniquely positioned to deliver. It's a city that can surprise first-time visitors while still offering something new to those who have visited before. Few destinations can strike that balance.

And ultimately, that's why planners continue to choose New Orleans. It’s built for events. It's built for connection. It's built for discovery. It’s built for elevated experiences. New Orleans is built to host.
