Springing From a Long Winter

This winter felt like a year. The cold. The gray. The endless layers. I was ready for spring long before the calendar said so.

But now that winter has officially closed its door, I wanted to give it one last moment of appreciation. Because in the middle of all this gray, we created something beautiful at the Gaylord Rockies Resort Center: An Alpine Affair that uncovered the magic of winter.

The Brief: Winter, But Make It Magical

The client came to us with a simple ask: Winter Wonderland. That was it. No color restrictions. Just: Winter, make it magical.

Creative freedom like that allows you to dream big, push boundaries, and take risks to transform a venue with our vision.

So, we did. We leaned into the alpine aesthetic—think cozy, warm, inviting, elevated. The goal was for guests to walk in and feel like they'd been transported to a luxury winter wonderland—minus the freezing temperatures. The Gaylord Rockies setting was an ideal backdrop to create from.

From Vision to Venue: The Creative Process

Event design is never linear—it's collaborative and iterative, a constant back-and-forth between creative vision and real-world execution. We spent months bridging ideas with feasibility, refining details, and ensuring every element could be delivered at the level the concept demanded.

Lucky for my creative heart, I’m also an experienced event producer. I thrive on concepts and problem-solving, but my operational mindset keeps the work grounded.

It forces the essential question: This is a great idea—but how are we going to execute it? That balance between dreaming big and staying realistic is what turns strong concepts into successful events.

The Details that Made it Work

For the Alpine Affair, we brought in geodesic domes both inside and outside the venue. These nestled igloos offered intimate seating, glowing softly from within like storybook hideaways.

Think fairytale flair with frozen blooms—unexpected florals with icicles—and an ethereal, out-of-this-world entrance. We used Aurora-inspired fabric in hazy blues and soft greys to wrap the space in a dreamy alpine dusk, stopping guests in their tracks as they reached for their phones. When people pause to capture a moment, you know it’s a moment that matters.

The rustic charm was elevated with modern elegance using touches of metal, such as chairs, to create a sleek contrast. We also paid meticulous attention to lighting. Lighting is everything. It's what makes people stop and notice, transforming a space from "nice" to "wow." You can see some of the magic here, in our Holiday Lookbook.

When It All Comes Together

There's this moment—every single time—when you walk into the space after load-in and see everything fully realized.

After months of renderings, spec sheets, and budget conversations, it’s suddenly real. The domes are in place. The lighting is glowing. The entrance looks more magical than you imagined.

Watching guests move through the space—phones out, reactions immediate— makes it all the work worth it. Hearing someone say, "This is incredible" never gets old. That's the payoff. That's why we do this.

One Last Ode to Winter

ICYMI: Spring is officially official and I’m ready for it.

But as winter officially ends, I'll give it this: the Alpine Affair was a standout. It reminded me that even in the coldest, grayest months, we can create warmth. We can build experiences that make people stop, look around, and feel something.

That's the power of great event design. It's not just about logistics or aesthetics—it's about creating moments that matter. Moments people remember. Moments that make even the longest winter feel a little shorter.

So, here's to winter—one last time. And here's to the creative freedom that allows vision to meet the venue.

Spring is now in session!
