The ask? Transform Terranea into a Southern Californian oasis that balanced refined moments onsite with thoughtfully curated off-site immersive experiences for a week rooted in recognition, connection, and the power of place.

Challenge

Designing a Destination-Driven Program from a Remote Peninsula

Perched on the Palos Verdes peninsula overlooking the Pacific, Terranea Resort offers coastal beauty, but when serving as the home base for a large, multi-day recognition program, logistics are… tricky. With limited direct access to surrounding areas, and evolving traffic and routing constraints, it would require strategic creativity and precision to create an expansive, varied, and elevated program for 900 guests.

The client wanted to recognize the achievement of attendees, provide flexible activity options, and immerse in the local culture of Southern California—without overwhelming guests or compromising the elevated tone of the event.

Local Expertise, Precise Execution

Drawing on their deep local knowledge and extensive experience, PRA’s Southern California and Central Services teams partnered to design a multiday program that transformed Terranea’s peninsula location into a strategic haven.

The teams curated programming rooted in destination, anchoring the experience with four elevated on property events, all reflecting the client’s brand with a Southern California vibe, including:

  • Welcome Reception: A Taste of California Food & Wine
  • Honorary Awards Dinner: Tidepool Treasures
  • Former Council President’s Dinner: Terracotta Breezes
  • Annual Dinner/Final Night: Sunrise Fest

For example, the Welcome Reception was an all-senses celebration of Southern California living. Attendees experienced curated regional wines, a water sommelier station, sea salt and local honey tasting, oyster shell painting, and a live wine painter, all framed by custom citrus-inspired décor. It set the tone for the week: warm, artisanal, and unmistakably Southern California.

While a choice of 6 off-site tours invited guests to explore the region’s coastal, cultural and urban highlights. From the South Bay to downtown LA and everywhere in-between, each experience was intentional, offering flexibility, variety, and immersion.

Behind the scenes, PRA managed complex transportation routing, timing, and logistics to ensure every transition felt effortless. By carefully balancing onsite programming with off-property exploration, PRA delivered a cohesive recognition experience that felt expansive, personal, and distinctly Southern Californian—reinforcing its role as a trusted partner capable of executing largescale programs in challenging environments.
